Hello "blog", my name is Brian Park and i am currently 15 years old and residing in Toronto, Canada. Despite my nationality being Korean, I have spent more then half my life in Canada then in Korea. Although i consider myself more Canadian then Korean, I miss my dad and my country very much.
I am planning to take Architecture in University but feel unsure if it is the right course for me. I seldom think about other courses i would enjoy in University such as World History and Teacher's course.
When i read a novel, i would either find myself lost in it and unable to release the grip from my hand or be terribly bored from reading it and wanting it to be finished already. The books i read are mostly school related and i am always at these 2 feelings of either excitement or horrible dullness.
When i try to compose a piece of written literature, i feel lost in sense i do not know what to write. I feel pressured by others as i see my classmates write pieces twice as longer as mine with complicated grammar so I panic while writing by getting much word and "sophisticated" lettering to hopefully satisfy the rubric. I am met with this dilemma every time i write and many time, it turns out so painfully horrible and awkward to read.
So here i am, in UIHS, hoping to improve on my writing and hopefully solve my dilemma of panicked writing.
Firstly, welcome to our class, and our school, too. According to my experiences, I can tell you that your writing definitely will be improved after this course, as long as you try your best. One more thing, believe me, you are not the only one who has trouble with novels and essays cause I do, too =)). However, don't worry about it, we and the others will help each other and I suppose, Sherry will be glad to support us as much as she can. Am I right Sherry ? =))
Hello Brian, my name coincidentally Brian too! You are exactly like me, you were born in korea but lived your life in Canada and want to get into architecture too! I know your problem too well as i suffer from writing too.
Hi, Brian. You have spent more than half your life in Canada than Korea; however, I have spent more than half my life in Korea. I miss my country, too. In addition, I hope to improve on your writing skills in this class.
Hey Brian, I wish you the best in this class, learning English + I hope that you can visit Korea someday in the future, to see your family. it is my pleasure to see you in this class :)
My name is Nguyên, which means the generous and/or honesty in Vietnamese. With this name, my parents have attached a strong belief that I will become a good person who lives not only for himself but also for other people around him. I recognized how much my parents have loved me and have sacrificed for me. Therefore, when I came to Canada, I promised to myself that I would try my best to study, to be a better person and make my parents proud of me. Then, after finishing studying here, I will come back to Vietnam to help my country, my people, as I was expected.
The very early period living in Canada has become the experience that I can’t forget ever after. The moment I got off an airplane, I told myself that life would be harder and harder, people would not be so nice to me like my parents, I had to regulate my own life without any help. Even though I didn’t stop compose myself, I was still gripped by fear. On the way to home, everything was so weird to me, streets, trees, cars, everything. This country is very different from mine. I thought I could die after several days. However, life is not as bad as I thought, especially, after I met my homestay parents. They were so friendly and nice, so I felt much better and comfortable. They talked to me about Canadian life, people, and gave me tips to “survive” from this hard time. I always thank them for that. So far, I’ve been here for almost 6 months and everything has been still good and I realize I am better than my imagination =))
Hi Nguyen I am glad you were able to fit in to Canada during your 6 month, you should try visiting the Royal Ontario Museum sometimes or other Canadian sites. I hope when you safe stay here in Canada. Brian
Hi, Nguyên. I cannot believe that you have been Toronto for almost six months because you have a good English skills. Moreover, I will come back my country when I graduate from University, same as you.
What's up Nguyen, welcome to Canada :) I'm glad that you found yourself happy in Canada. I hope to make a further conversation in this class mann. It is my pleasure to see you in this class :)

im so glad you met good home stay parents and i hope you can have fun in Canada. Here have lots of delicious food>< and i love it. and so good to see you in this class.
I am Jeong Yeon Lee and I originate from the city of Seoul in South Korea. My English name is Eileen. I came to Canada to study because of the excellent training in Early Childhood Education (ECE). I studied Early Childhood Development program. When I took my placement, I learned and developed skills about Early Childhood Education. When I was a high school student I came to enjoy nurturing children. I believe that I could teach them using innovative new approaches. I enjoy taking care of my two younger sisters. I enjoyed spending time with them because of those experiences leads me to become an Early Child Educator. I am fascinated by their pure ideas, their distinctive behaviors, and their developmental patterns, especially in relation to emotional development, self-expression, self-regulation, and empathy for others. I enjoy drawing and making creative toys with children. Taking care of my two younger sisters has required me to be responsible and observe them. Thus, I built a positive relationship with all families and children as I enhance my learning and development in my field placement. One of my Early Childhood Educator offered job for me, but I could not work in the day care centre because I have to take an English class. However, I sometimes do babysitting. I always think about children.
Hi Eileen Your interest in children supervising seems fascinating, I hope you will find time to work in the day care later on in the future. I hope you have fun in English Class. Brian
Your experiences are amazing! I ensure you will be at an advantage in the future job. I also have some kids at home; hopefully, you can teach me how to deal with them ;)) Anyway, enjoy our class and have fun :-P
Hi, I love children, however I cannot take care of them. I was volunteering at the Gate Way JK, I was struggling with them :( Anyway, I wish you the best in your future, and It's pleasure to see you in the class :)
Welcome to the class, I am glad we have another teacher in this class. I hope you have enjoyed your stay in Canada so far, and I am sorry to hear that you could not take on the job offer because of the summer class you had to take. I hope you can catch up with your position right after classes.
Im not good at staying with children, so i admire you, because take care about children require time and patience. ORZ... Hope you have fun in here! so good to see you in this class. ; )
Activity 1: Personal Relationship to Literature Assignment 1 I am Kitty; the girl sits on the opposite side of table during the class from you. As I introduced before, I come from China, and my parents are working and living in China now. For me, I still feel curious for Canada, since I just came to here for about 5 months, and I spent almost time in my school and dormitory. Sometimes, I encouraged myself that it’s okay to be afraid in a totally strange environment. However, fortunately, roller skating, my favorite sport helps me to meet many new friends and relieve stresses. One more thing is worth mentioning is that in fact, I miss my family and friends very much, but I think it is really not necessary to recall homesickness whenever obstacles appear in my life, because courage is the one should strive to take the stage and perform for conquering difficulties. Mentioning of the first experiences of perceiving the power of written words, I prefer to talk about a novel called, “My sister’s protector”, which was also filmed into a popular movie. In this novel, lots of inner and outer contradictions were involved, especially for the younger sister who was born for saving her elder sister that got serious leukemia. In the view of the younger sister, the family affection is valuable with no doubt, but who is willing be taken advantages with her lifetime for transplanting organs, and offering whatever her elder sister needs to maintain her life? Thus, the written words played an important on expressing skillfully each character’s inner world that the mother’s anxiety, the father’s introspection, the elder sister’s gratefulness, and the younger sister’s hesitation. I have to say I was really moved by this novel, and that is the reason why I persisted in finishing reading it. After I finished reading this attractive and long novel, I got more confidence on English, which encourages me to read more novels in the future.
Hi kitty The rollerskating seems really fun and its good to be in a in a new environment, I experienced so much when i first came to Canada 8 years ago without much guidance. I was able to make friends with many common interest very fast so you will have no problem fitting in. I hope your stay in Canada treats you well. Brian
Hi, Kitty. I liked roller skating when I was child. Now, I just go to a fitness and do exercise. In addition, I will try to read 'My sister’s protector'.
Hey Kitty, I've never been to the dorm yet; but I bet its not as comfortable as your home. I wish you could learn a lot of skills and knowledge in this class. It is my pleasure to see you :)
I have nothing to say to you cause we know each other so well, rite =)) However, we will still study together as we used to do. I hope what both of us will be accepted by the universities that we desire.
Hi Dao Its nice to meet you and seeing you get better in english grammar. If you wish, some of my recommendation of english literature would be The Curious Incidence of the Dog at the Night Time by Mark Haddon. It is a fantastic book and you might like it. Have fun in Canada! Brian
My name is Thomas Park, and I'm current grade 11 at Jarvis Collegiate Institute. I have been in Canada since 2009 summer. I was born in Korea at South-Eastern city called Daegu When I turned to grade 7, I decided to come to Canada to study. Fortunately, my parents agreed with my decision and allowed me to study. For my first year in Canada, I stayed at Romanian home stay, near Don Mills region. I was going to the private school for my grade 8, Willowwood School. For my second year, I moved to the North York region to live with my brother (currently he is in New York studying Photograph) in one of the Elder's house. I was going to Don Mills Collegiate Institute for grade 9. During my third and fourth year in Canada (currently), I’m going to the Jarvis Collegiate Institute since 2011 until now.
To talk more about myself, I like to read books that can give emotional feelings to me, such as 'The Old Man and the Sea', 'For Whom the Bell Tolls', etc. When I first read 'The Old Man and the Sea', written by Ernest Miller Hemingway, I was very impressed how he described the old man's grief when he lost his fish. After reading this book, I thought, that the written words can create new discovery that could not happen in real life. To conclude this journal, written literature source provides information to people, however it could give new discovery to readers.
It seems that you had many changes in living place here. But after all, you found a good place to live which is great. One more thing, I agree The Old Man and the Sea is such an amazing novel. I thought I've read it twice or three times cause I love the lessons that we can draw from it.
Hi, Thomas. You was born in Daegu. My one of friends was born in Daegu, too. Almost people recommend 'The Old Man and the Sea'; however, I do not read it. Thus. I will try to read it during this summer.
Hi Thomas I am able to relate to your situation as i left korea at a relatively early age too, and i hope your brother does great at New York and you too at Jarvis Brian
I read this novel 2 or 3 years ago and i can not even remember what feeling when i read it, but i totally agree with you. I think i should reread it sometime. And i like to watch korea show , so i heard about Daegu people have their special accent. I really want to learn it someday : ) btw i like Yu Jae Seok ><

Hi, Thomas. i'm sorry for replying late, because i saw your post just now. I have the same feelings as yours when I read or watch a good book or movie, I used to considering a lot. Boy likes reading novels, such an in accessible and wonderful thing. It's my pleasure to meet you too.
My name is Claire. I come from China. Although I have been in Canada for two years, my speaking and writing skills are still not smooth or excellent. Because I want to graduate early in February, so in the summer my English must improve and other exams must be achieved. This summer will be the busiest period of time: TOEFL, Math and SAT are tests that I need to achieve satisfying marks within four months, which for me really is a great challenge. For many times I get to the point which I feel I would rather die instead of drowning and suffoscating in the sea of work. My heart shouts "I want to die!". But I really want to do good on this English course, not only to achieve a good mark, but also, and more importantly, to improve my reading and speaking. English is critical for various areas of learnign whether in college or high school. Sooner or later, I need to force myself to learn and push my English skills to a certain level. On every English class I have, wherever and whenever, I notice everyone starts to write around me when homework is assigned. While on the other hand, my brain began to go blank. Then I start to stall and think my brains out. As the deadline comes near, I slowly finish my homework, but not in the quality I hope to achieve due to all the gramma mistakes I make all the time. I hope the completion of this lesson can take my English to another level in all aspects.
Dear Claire I am sure with all your hard work and effort you will eventually take your English skills to another level. Keep doing your best and I assure you about a great outcome. And welcome to our lovely class. Sherry
Hi Claire, I am sorry to hear that you have to take TOEFL test and Math and SAT................Anyway, I hope you get great marks on those tests, which will satisfy your feeling :) and good to see you in this class.
Hi Claire, I think that your English is good, so the little thing you need to do is be confident and study hard. After that, your English will be perfect, for sure.
I am Serena, i come from Beijing, China. My situation as same as Claire. I have been in Canada since 2011 winter. In my memory, Canada's winter is long and cold. So, thats why i like summer now. However, my English skills need to improve, I feel headache when i was writing and i am so worry about my grammar all the time.
Anyways, talk more about myself, i like sports. I go to gym everyday and i want to have at least 2 abdominal muscles in my body. Every time i feel stressful or unhappy, i will go to gym and running half hour. That can make me feel better. Kobe Bryant is my love, but I'm no good at playing basketball. He is one of the best scorers in the NBA, and his organizational ability is also outstanding. He is the one who make me start to watching NBA.
Hi Serena Welcome to our class. I am glad we have an athlete in class. Good to know that you are sports lover. And you are doing a good job catching up. Keep it up. Sherry
Hi Serena I agree with you that the winter in Canada is painful. I have been here since 2009 summer, so Its reasonable to survive now :) And if you work out everyday, you will get what you want. Personally, I go to the gym and workout *almost* everyday and it feels great when you achieve your goal. I hope you will fulfill your dream. Good to see you in the class

ReplyDeleteAnyways, talk more about myself, i like sports.
Hi Serena
DeleteWelcome to our class. I am glad we have an athlete in class. Good to know that you are sports lover. And you are doing a good job catching up. Keep it up.

Hi Serena
DeleteI agree with you that the winter in Canada is painful. I have been here since 2009 summer, so Its reasonable to survive now :)
And if you work out everyday, you will get what you want.
Personally, I go to the gym and workout *almost* everyday and it feels great when you achieve your goal. I hope you will fulfill your dream.
Good to see you in the class
I agree that doing exercises is good for health and a great way to relax after a stressful day
